20,000 Kilometres Away With Love
Hi. It’s been a while. The last time I published something on here… let’s just say everything was quite different. Here’s what’s up with me these days (if you’re interested). Also, some rather unsaid words.
I Moved Out
Yep. Finally.
So, I moved to a nice little town in Illinois, USA. Currently going to grad school chasing my dream degree Alhamdulillah. After spending this entire year dealing with admissions, visa and everything in between – I am finally here. There were just so many barriers involved in those 7 months that for the better half of it, I just felt like quitting. Even at the very last hour, I had to buy tickets again just to come here (Bravo btw, Air Canada).

Hilarious but I was just brimming with confidence on my visa interview day. Fun fact is ONLY 2 students (including me) got an F1 visa the entire day out of at the very least a hundred applicants.
It was overwhelming but so worth it now that I look back. I cannot explain in words how excruciatingly painful these past few months were but I am so glad it turned out that way because I just cherish this blessing so much more now.
The Good
Everything really.
The system. The mindset. The opportunities. Everything.
I’m genuinely having a good time (stressful though), fitting in surprisingly well and I just feel like your efforts are more recognized here.
The Bad
Well, I miss my people for sure. That’s a no-brainer.
But there’s something else that I just miss so terribly. It’s walking down the streets of Dhaka. There’s just something so comforting about the streets of Dhaka that no other city can quite emulate for us Dhaka people. It makes you feel like… the entire city is yours.
Some Final Words
I really don’t know what the point of this was. Probably the words that I can’t tell anyone over the phone and some more words that were unsaid when I left so suddenly.
Here goes nothing…
Thank you, Ammu and Abbu.
Thank you, Bhaiya and Bhaabi.
Thank you to my teachers. (I hope y’all are finally proud)
Thank you to my ever supportive family and to each and every one of my friends.
Thank you, my lover.
Thank you to every one in between.
But most importantly, thank you Allah.
Brb, got another degree to chase. Also, time to make another city my own.
Hey Alexa, play The Heart Part 5 by Kendrick Lamar.
